First Look: Fistral Beach Hotel Bay Bar Refurbishment

I was lucky enough to receive some of the first pictures of Fistral Beach Hotel’s new refurbishment and I wanted to share them with you. As a huge fan of Cornwall, and of the ‘staycation’ – ok, ok, I hate that term, too – I thought this could make the perfect little summer getaway.

The look

The hotel’s Bay Bar – which overlooks Fistral Beach, has been refurbished. The hotel’s Creative Director, Gayle Nettleton chose to blend natural design elements from celebrated Cornish designer, Tom Raffield, in with her designs. I think the natural look works so perfectly with the beach setting.

I don’t include many refurbishments on my page, but what caught my eye about this one was the fact that a lot of the materials used had been locally sourced. This includes the timber which forms the backbone of the design.

The palette blends in with the colours you see when you look out to Fistral Beach; it’s washed out but in a good, relaxing way. I could think of nothing better to do than sit on that chair with a good book. I think it’d be a really calming experience.

Creating a style

Gayle used sculptural wood designs from Tom Raffield’s signature collection to create that calming experience. I like that they’ve opted away from the nautical cliches that many hotels by the sea fall victim to!

Tom Raffield uses a traditional steam bending process to create his modern day masterpieces and Gayle Nettleton’s use of his pieces has given the Bay Bar a completely new, airy feel.

The hotel is very popular with surfers, and I think this look is quite a nod to them. Having visited hotels of this kind before, I think they’ve got laid-back luxury down to a tee, here.

What do you love about Cornwall?

I’d love to hear your thoughts. I’m planning a trip down to Cornwall in the near future, so it’d be good to hear if you’ve got any top tips on where to visit. It’ll be my fiancee’s first trip, so first timer tips are welcome, too!
